We Are Hiring: Project Lead – Social Equity Project

Reports to: CEO

Location: Sub-Sahara Africa (preferably South Africa). Remote working.

OVERVIEW

This key position will directly report to the CEO and will lead the implementation of the Social Equity Project at JA Africa in collaboration with the Z Zurich Foundation and the Zurich Insurance Group. In this program, JA will work with nine countries: Uganda, Cote D’Ivoire, Tanzania, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Sierra Leone and Liberia, cumulatively transforming the lives of over 160,000 youth aged 16-25 through the implementation of a continuum of career readiness, entrepreneurship, and leadership programming over three years.

The Project Lead will take the lead in overall project management and achievement of project deliverables, starting with curriculum development and project planning, recruitment and oversight of project leads in each country, coordination of ecosystem and coalition of support in each country and tracking of timelines and deliverables for all workstreams. The Project Lead will also serve as the main point of contact to the donor and will be responsible for managing relationships and information flow between and among the teams at JA Worldwide, JA Africa Regional Operating Center (ROC) and the nine Member Nations in the project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Design and Planning: Lead, manage and coordinate day-to-day planning, implementation and management of project activities according to the project document and project log frame • The activities include:
  • Development and contextualization of the curriculum and program materials.
  • Organisation of Entrepreneurship & Leadership Bootcamps: The 3-day intensive camp will be an entrepreneurship and leadership bootcamp designed in partnership with the business schools in each country to build capacity of youth to gain the skills necessary to take charge of their own future.
  • JA Digital Entrepreneurship Education Progam (DEEP): Self-paced online based interactive entrepreneurship curriculum created specifically for young African learners
  • Social Impact Project & Business Pitch Competition
  • Career Matching Platform
  • Project Monitoring and Evaluation: Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the project on beneficiaries and submit M&E reports to the donor as needed. Coordinate with the Finance Director and Programs & Grants Manager to prepare and submit timely progress reports and financial reports on a regular basis to the donor.
  • Program Communication:
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing and partnerships team for the collection of implementation stories, success stories and other forms of testimonials.
  • Evaluate and assess technology products/services as and when required to ensure use across the JA Africa network
  • Troubleshoot project problems, and implement solutions or escalate to CEO

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ten years of relevant experience with at least five years in management capacity
  • Master’s degree in relevant field required
  • Bilingual – fluent in both French and English
  • Strong network and ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
  • Proven ability to motivate, provide technical support and guidance to a diverse team of staff and partners
  • Strong interest in social entrepreneurship and youth economic empowerment
  • Skills in training/facilitation of development processes, including mobilisation of communities and networking among different development partners such as community-based organisations and government officers
  • Analytics and reporting solutions know-how. Translate numbers into business impact situations
  • Project Management mastery to guide the teams to project completion
  • Experience in business development and forming strategic partnerships related to the ecosystem building and implementation of programs
  • Experience in creating, motivating and leading teams in the implementation of innovative projects
  • Experience in delivering complex, multiple stakeholder programmes of change
