We are Hiring: Digital Strategy Director

Reports to: CEO

Location: Sub-Sahara Africa. Remote working.


This key position will directly report to the CEO and VP, Strategy, and will be responsible for formulating and implementing digital innovation strategy for the organization. The Digital Strategy Director (DSD) will nurture and develop the organization’s digital platforms, programs and culture. As well, the DSD will provide recommendations, align resources and support project design and implementation. 

The DSD will coach and empower the teams at the regional and country levels to adopt digital platforms, processes and programs that better serve JA Africa’s stakeholders. The DSD will further serve as a subject matter expert in utilizing technology to scale, grow, and increase the effectiveness of ongoing operations and programs.


  • Develop and execute a digital transformation roadmap for the organization to identify, nurture, and scale digital innovation initiatives in delivering impact with JA Africa member nations.
  • Develop digital platforms for effective stakeholder management:
  • Knowledge Sharing Platform – A network-wide platform that facilitates collaboration across the network by allowing Member Nations and the Regional Operating Center (ROC) to share resources, best practices, templates, and information, as well as communicate seamlessly
  • E-Learning Platform Skills Lab – The implementation of a network-wide platform that houses all digital content in a centralized location, for the purpose of independent or on-demand learning; 
  • JA Volunteer University – a network-wide platform for recruiting, training, matching, managing and appraising volunteers and mentors
  • Partnerships: The formation and management of partnerships with Big Tech, EdTech, and Mobile Network Operators to help Member Nations and the ROC reach marginalized youth at scale and more effectively
  • Digital Content & Online Experiences: Develop new digital skills curriculum/content and online experiences for educators, students and youth that can be used in self-study, group-study, and virtual competitions across the region while improving existing curriculum through gamification, AI, and other digital enhancements
  • Identify, assess and manage external vendors in the delivery of contracted work for platform development, learning management systems and various processes of technology for JA Africa.
  • Incorporate AI tools and courses on the E-Skills Lab and other JA Africa platforms and organize AI training for all JA Africa staff
  • Supervise digital/tech team at the ROC and Member Nations
  • Represent JA Africa on the JA Worldwide LX/Tech global community
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing and partnerships team to develop proposals to donors/partners related to digital innovation for the organization.
  • Keep up-to-date with digital trends and best practices. 
  • Monitoring best practices and trends in emerging technologies and proactively researching, recommending and implementing technologically innovative solutions to enhance user experience.
  • Evaluate and assess technology products/services as and when required to ensure use across the JA Africa network


  • Knowledge of the contemporary digital landscape of organisations and experience of bringing leading technology and process optimisation practices to an organisation to drive sustainable improvements in business performance
  • Strong interest in social entrepreneurship and youth economic empowerment
  • Knowledge in learning management systems and adapting for customized use in African context
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology field required.
  • Master’s degree in relevant field and/or PMP or equivalent certification in project management preferred
  • Analytics and reporting solutions know-how. Translate numbers into business impact situations
  • Agile/Scrum/Design thinking mastery to guide the teams to project completion
  • Experience in information technology management. It includes scoping, leading, and delivering innovation initiatives with a strong track record of building innovation capability to grow operations and effectiveness within an organization
  • Experience in business development and forming strategic partnerships related to the launch and implementation of digital platforms and tools
  • Experience in creating, motivating and leading teams in the implementation of innovative projects 
  • Experience in delivering complex, multiple stakeholder programmes of change
  • 6+ years creating innovative digital programmes from concept, and operation, to scale 
  • 3+ years’ experience providing technology solutions in an educational environment preferred
  • Experience with building and administering digital skills courses to youth in Africa preferred
  • Native proficiency in English
