Accra, September xx , 2022 – Global Citizen, an international advocacy organization, dedicated to achieving the end of extreme poverty, has selected JA Africa, one of the largest and most-impactful youth-serving NGOs in Africa, as one of the causes they will be supporting at the Global Citizen Festival: Accra. The event will take place at the iconic Black Star Square in Ghana’s capital, Accra, on September 24, 2022, hosted by Danai Gurira and featuring live performances from Usher, SZA, Stormzy, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, TEMSand more.
JA Africa, headquartered in Accra, operates in 13 African countries and reaches more than 300,000 youth each year with programs which equip youth with the skillset and mindset to build thriving communities. Through this collaboration, Global Citizen is bringing JA Africa’s work into the limelight, and inspiring those who can make things happen to support the achievement of the common goals of both organizations.
The overarching goal of the Global Citizen Festival is to call on leaders to:
- Invest in the future of girls as the key to ending extreme poverty.
- Close the climate finance gap, and deliver on the promises made in the Paris Agreement.
- Alleviate the global food crisis, by uplifting smallholder farmers across Africa; and
- Relieve the massive debts that are unjustly crushing economies, because our collective future depends on it.
“We are grateful to Global Citizen for the support and we’re excited about what we can accomplish through this partnership. Youth engagement and involvement in actions to alleviate social issues is critical and this is an important platform for us as it gives us the opportunity to throw more light on our efforts to significantly increase youth engagement in resolving these issues especially climate change”, said JA Africa’s CEO, Simi Nwogugu. She added, “We invite all Global Citizens to support JA Africa’s Climate Changemakers Fellowship program which will empower Ghana’s youth to establish innovative solutions to climate-induced business and community-related problems.”
