Kojo Boakye of Facebook & Pierre Romagny of Oliver Wyman Join JA Africa’s Board
JA Africa welcomes Kojo Boakye and Pierre Romagny to its board of directors, effective March 26, 2021. They join 15 accomplished professionals on the JA Africa Board. Fifteen of JA Africa Board members are independent directors who have elected to serve pro bono. Their leadership, governance and oversight functions advances JA’s mission of shaping the future of work for Africa’s youth.
Kojo Boakye – Director of Public Policy for Africa, Facebook (London)
Kojo Boakye is Facebook’s Director of Public Policy for Africa. He’s an ICT for Development practitioner with 17+ years’ experience working with governments, fixed-line and mobile operators, development partners, online service providers, content developers, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations. Prior to joining Facebook, he was the Deputy Executive Director of the World Wide Web Foundation’s Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI), and he previously headed Research and Consultancy at the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO).
Before being asked to lead Facebook’s policy work in SSA Kojo’s work focused on broadband affordability, connectivity and access, with a special focus on the socio-economic impact of broadband services. Today, his work involves the full gamut of policy matters that impact the digital economy, including data privacy, content policy, taxation, cybersecurity, election integrity, online safety, digital literacy, digital payments, and entrepreneurship. Kojo continues to be passionate about creating opportunities for Africa and Africans. Most recently, he joined the board for Junior Achievement Africa. In addition to an MSc in Development Studies, Kojo holds a BA in African History and Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Pierre Romagny – Partner, Oliver Wyman (South Africa)
Pierre Romagny has 18 years of cumulated experience in Africa working with financial institutions, multilateral and bilateral organizations. Pierre started his career working for the French cooperation and the International Labour organization in Southern Africa working of health and social development opportunities. He moved on to join Barclays Emerging Market and Barclays Mozambique where he focused on transformation topics. For the last decade, Pierre has been a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Africa practice where he advises financial services organizations on digital and disruptive strategies. Pierre graduated from Sussex University with a BA in Economics with Development Studies and from Reading University with an MSc in Development Project: Management and Implementation. He is fluent in French (mother tongue), English and Portuguese.
JA Africa has gained global recognition and regional traction as the go-to organization that adds value to education by bridging the gap between what students learn in classroom and the skills they need to be successful in world of work. It has successfully achieved this feat by partnering with governments, schools, private sector and other like-minded organizations to implement projects and programs which have impacted different youth groups at the individual, community and national levels.
