Welcome to the 2021 Virtual JA Africa Company of the Year Competition! For the second year, JA Africa will host a virtual Company of the Year competition in response to the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. COY 2021 will be hosted by JA Mauritius. The competition is Africa's premier pitch competition for high school-aged youth who have completed the flagship JA Company Program. The 3-day event brings together students (aged 15-19) from countries across Africa to compete in teams for cash and prizes, in this contest of business skills, ingenuity and innovation.
The theme for COY 2021 is ‘Innovating With Grit!.’ It is inspired by the need for young people to demonstrate a sense of resilience and adaptability to overcome the challenges that have happened globally in the entrepreneurship space given the COVID-19 pandemic.
Businesses that have survived the pandemic are those that were able to innovate quickly, adopting new systems and processes that enable them to continue serving customers despite the lockdown and other challenges.
We expect to have 11 country teams competing for the grand prize of Company of the Year as well as branded awards. The teams will represent Côte d'Ivoire, Eswatini, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe .
JA Africa will leverage its digital strength to plan and execute the virtual competition, which will be broadcast live on JA Africa's YouTube and Facebook page.
