Citi Foundation and Junior Achievement Tanzania Host Public-Private Partnership Conference
Dar es Salaam – Junior Achievement (JA) Tanzania is partnering with Citi Tanzania to host a public-private partnership conference, aimed at building a stronger coalition of private and public sector actors working to empower the youth economically. The conference will be held at Gentle Hill, Iringa, (Tanzania) on 12th July, 2018. The conference is sponsored by the Citi Foundation.
The conference will provide an opportunity for private and public sector actors to share insights and best practices, and gain guidance on how to address some of the challenges of public-private partnerships. The conference will also help attendees better understand the convergence between government priorities, core business of the private sector companies and NGO and civil society mandates.
Attendees will hear from keynote speakers including Mr. Richard Kasesela the Iringa DC and Mr. MacDonald from Small Industry Development Organization Dar es Salaam.
Joseph Carasso, Citi Country Officer and JA Board Chair Tanzania said “As a global bank, our mission is to enable growth and progress in the markets and communities we serve. Citi and Citi Foundation have partnered with JAT for nearly three decades to build the internal capacity of the network and to fund programs that improve the financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills of young people. We are delighted to work with JA Tanzania to build the capacity of the attendees by sharing best practices from the JA-Citi relationship and the Pathways to Progress initiative.”
Executive Director of JA Tanzania, Hamis Kassongo expressed his views on the need for structured public private partnerships, saying that “The public-private partnership conference intends to unite stakeholders from communities, higher education institutions, and public agencies with industry to discuss best practices. Sustainable growth and continuous impact are dependent on public-private partnerships which are effectively structured to create shared value and enhance the employability prospects of youth.”
In 2014, the Citi Foundation launched Pathways to Progress, a three-year, $50 million initiative in the United States to help 100,000 low-income youth — aged 16 to 24 — to develop workplace and leadership experience necessary to compete in a 21st century economy. In 2015, the Citi Foundation expanded the Pathways to Progress initiative to encompass its global investments and innovations focused on developing youth economic opportunities across Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Asia Pacific region. Citi Foundation currently supports the implementation of the in-school Company Program in Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia and the out of school youth program in Tanzania and Uganda.
