Agri-business Entrepreneur, Gcina Dlamini, Wins Inaugural JA Eswatini Alumni Start-Up of the Year Award

JA Eswatini, with the support of the Taiwan Embassy, organized the inaugural JA Eswatini Alumni Awards at The George Hotel on Friday, May 17, 2024. This event celebrated the achievements of outstanding alumni, with 16 award categories featuring various prizes sponsored by partners. The most prestigious accolade, the JA Eswatini Alumni Start-Up of The Year, was sponsored by the Taiwan Embassy and came with an all-expenses paid trip to attend the JA Worldwide Alumni Summit in Portugal, along with a trophy and a framed certificate.

The ultimate prize was awarded to Gcina Dlamini, an inspiring agribusiness entrepreneur. Gcina’s passion for agriculture began at a young age. During high school, he participated in a Junior Achievement program, where he created a small backyard garden to grow vegetables and fruits from seedlings provided by his school’s agricultural program. What started as a modest garden quickly turned into a thriving small business, with Gcina selling his produce to community members.

Driven by a desire to help his mother market the family farm, Gcina’s interest in entrepreneurship grew. In 2013, he founded Smiling Through Investments (STIN), an agribusiness company specializing in the legume, seed, and bean value addition industries.

The recognition of Gcina Dlamini as the JA Eswatini Alumni Start-Up of The Year highlights the significant impact of his work in the agribusiness sector and his dedication to entrepreneurial excellence. This prestigious award underscores JA Eswatini’s commitment to fostering young entrepreneurs who are making a tangible difference in their communities and beyond.
