Join the JA Ghana Team as an Executive Director

JA Ghana is recruiting an experienced Executive Director to oversee all operations, functions and activities. The successful candidate will be the face of the organization, responsible for giving the proper strategic direction and implementing a high quality vision.

The person selected for this role is expected to be an influential manager with the ability to lead and motivate. They should have great communication skills and take a holistic approach in managing the organization’s operations and lead the organization towards the realization of its mission.

The main responsibilities of the job will include: strategic planning, fundraising, stakeholder relationship management, promotion, Board management and program implementation.

JA (Junior Achievement) Ghana is a member of JA Worldwide, one of the largest global non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people to own their economic success by enhancing the relevance of education. JA programs focus on the areas of Work Readiness, Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy and provide experiential learning experience for young people to prepare for life in the 21st century.

This position will be based in Accra and will report to the Board of Directors, working closely with the JA Africa regional office in Ghana.

 

Job DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Position:

  • Works with and reports to the JA Ghana Board of Directors to assure proper governance of JA Ghana
  • Directs JA Ghana and its staff members within established policies and consistent with JA Worldwide member agreement
  • Responsible for all local planning, finance, program management, public relations, administrative operations, and human resources management
  • Supports JA Africa’s resource generation role through effective fundraising management and execution
  • Develops and maintains constructive relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders including staff, board members, business supporters, donors, volunteers, students and suppliers

Responsibilities

Program Growth and Quality:

  • Works with the BOD to set reasonable goals for program growth
  • Assures implementation of all planned programs to meet growth goals
  • Renews commitments from business leaders and identifies/recruits new business leaders to provide funding and Employees
  • Provides oversight for classroom monitoring
  • Implements appropriate methods to guarantee fidelity to program models
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of all programs

Visibility:

  • Promotes the image and brand of the organization in a manner which demonstrates understanding of competitors for volunteers and dollars and appropriate growth strategies
  • Represents and communicates JAG’s viewpoint to outside organizations
  • Acts as the representative of JAG before governmental, political, community, civic or industry groups
  • Acts and conducts oneself in ways that enhance JAG’s image with all community groups

Fundraising:

  • Develops and implements effective fund raising campaigns to reach established funding goals
  • Uses all resources to their fullest in reaching goals e.g., volunteers, in-kind gifts, etc.

 

Financial Management and Administration:

  • Gathers, analyzes, interprets and uses financial data in developing an area budget to support the accomplishment of organizational goals at realistic costs
  • Gains ROC /Board approval on financial plans
  • Manages area to maximize revenues and minimize expenses
  • Uses sound judgment based on financial status
  • Maintains JA Ghana’s registration and ensures compliance with all local laws related thereto
  • Collaborates and maintains transparent communication with JA Africa Regional Operating Center
  • Oversees human resources, informational, financial and office support functions

Board Management:

  • Works with the local Board of Directors to assure proper governance of the organization
  • Holds regular Board meetings and communicates with Board regularly on governance matters
  • Works with the Board to regularly recruit new members in accordance with the bylaws

Personnel Management:

Selects and manages support staff; sets accountabilities, coaches, develops and reviews

Quality Planning and Implementation:

  • Accomplishes established goals consistent with JA Worldwide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality performance
  • Identifies, implements and evaluates quality improvements in all major business processes
  • Works in ways that reflect a sense of urgency and commitment to productivity
  • Exhibits strategic thinking and planning

 

Position Qualifications:

Required:

 

 

·       Master’s degree in Development Studies or other related fields

·       Minimum five (5) years working experience in a similar position with an international organization

·       Strong leadership and personal accountability

·       Effective oral and written communication skills

·       Strong interpersonal relations

·       Sound judgment and practical goal setting

·       Integrity and business ethics

·       Effective time management and ability to perform under pressure

·       Adaptability/flexibility/initiative

·       Fluency in English
